With a strong national presence and a growing portfolio of major projects, they are seeking a Principal Mechanical Engineer / Team Leader
to join their Sydney office. This is a leadership opportunity for an experienced building services professional looking to influence project delivery, mentor high-performing teams, and play a key role in the continued growth of the business.
THE ROLE
As a Principal Mechanical Engineer / Team Leader, you will provide both technical and people leadership across a diverse range of building services projects. You will be responsible for leading project teams, maintaining strong client relationships, driving project outcomes, and contributing to the strategic growth of the mechanical division.
This role offers a genuine opportunity to shape the direction of the team while remaining actively involved in the delivery of landmark projects across multiple sectors.
Key Responsibilities:
- Lead and oversee the delivery of mechanical building services projects from concept design through to completion
- Provide technical leadership and quality assurance across project teams
- Manage client relationships and act as a trusted advisor throughout project lifecycles
- Drive project performance, ensuring delivery against budgets, programmes, and technical objectives
- Mentor, develop, and support engineers across all levels of experience
- Contribute to business development activities, including client engagement, proposal preparation, and project acquisition
- Collaborate closely with other engineering disciplines to deliver integrated project outcomes
- Support strategic planning and team growth initiatives within the Sydney business
ABOUT YOU
- Bachelor's Degree in Mechanical Engineering or equivalent
- 8+ years of building services consulting experience within the Australian market
- Strong technical expertise across HVAC and mechanical building services design
- Demonstrated experience leading multidisciplinary project teams and managing client relationships
- Well-developed understanding of NCC requirements and relevant Australian Standards
- Strong commercial awareness and experience managing project financial performance
- Excellent communication, leadership, and stakeholder management skills
- Previous experience mentoring engineers and contributing to team development
- Chartered status or progress towards Chartership will be highly regarded
