TIP // The interview isn’t just them interviewing you. (Yes, even in 2026.) We still see candidates walk out of interviews thinking “I hope they liked me” — without stopping to ask whether they actually like the role, the team or the leadership style. So here are a few questions candidates should be asking in interviews (but often don’t): “What does success look like in the first 6–12 months?” → If they can’t answer this clearly, expectations may be… flexible (and not in a good way). “Why is this role available right now?” → Growth, restructure, replacement — all very different scenarios. “How do you support career progression here?” → Titles are nice. Actual development plans are better. “How would you describe the leadership style of the team?” → Micromanagement and ‘supportive leadership’ are not the same thing. “What does flexibility really look like day to day?” → Hybrid means different things to different businesses — clarity matters. “What challenges is the team currently facing?” → Every role has them. Transparency is a good sign. An interview should be a two-way conversation, not a pop quiz where you’re just hoping for a pass mark. 👉 If you’re not asking questions, you’re leaving important information on the table. VIVID 2025 // What. A. Year. As we wrap up 2025, we’re looking back at the moments that made this wild ride unforgettable — and honestly, where do we even start? We’ve navigated a bumpy market, juggled school holidays, client deadlines, kids, dogs, and the occasional existential crisis… sometimes all before 10am. We’ve grown, adapted, laughed, stressed, hustled, and backed each other every step of the way. Easy. 🍱 12:00pm – Lunch AKA scrolling SEEK, LinkedIn, and your inbox simultaneously while inhaling something that used to be hot. 💬 1:30pm – The chase Candidate: Doesn’t answer phone for 3 days. VIVID TIPS // It’s getting to that pointy end of the year where we can almost taste those cold drinks in the sun... But before you check out for the holidays, here’s something worth doing: → Dust off that CV (and portfolio) — because who knows what opportunities might be waiting for you in the new year? After looking at tens of thousands of CVs over the years, here are a few of Nick's top tips 👇 1️⃣ Keep it clear and concise – especially your work history. If it’s confusing to read, you’re instantly on the back foot. 2️⃣ List your projects – your experience is often measured by the work you’ve delivered. 3️⃣ Tell us your role on those projects – were you leading the team or focused on a particular detail? The context matters. 4️⃣ Show off your credentials – registrations, certifications, and licenses (RPEQ, chartership, etc.) should stand out. 5️⃣ Don’t fear a longer CV – if you’ve got relevant projects, include them. Skip the grade 6 maths award though 😉 6️⃣ Skip the cover letter (for me, anyway) – I prefer to meet and build your story together. 7️⃣ Send a Word copy – sometimes I’ll need to tweak formatting or anonymise project names before sending to a client.
