About the Role
Our client is a leading national engineering consultancy with an impressive pipeline of education, aviation, commercial, tertiary, and industrial projects across Australia. They’re seeking an Intermediate Electrical Engineer (2–5 years’ experience)
to join their Melbourne office. You’ll work alongside a collaborative team to deliver innovative electrical building services solutions (power distribution, lighting, communications, fire alarms, etc.) on small to medium‑scale developments.
Key Responsibilities
- Develop electrical design concepts (power distribution, lighting systems, data/communications, fire alarm/integrated safety systems) from schematic through to detailed design.
- Prepare drawings, specifications, and design calculations using Revit MEP (electrical modules), AutoCAD Electrical, and simulation tools (e.g., Dialux, Relux).
- Coordinate multidisciplinary services (mechanical, structural, architectural) to ensure seamless integration within a shared BIM environment.
- Conduct site visits to review existing conditions, perform inspections, and provide as‑built commentary.
- Liaise with clients, contractors, and sub‑consultants to respond to technical queries and manage design updates.
- Assist in preparing tender packages, technical reports, and documentation for council/authority approvals.
- Mentor junior engineers and CAD technicians; review their work for compliance with internal QA/QC procedures and Australian Standards.
- Bachelor’s degree in Electrical Engineering (or equivalent).
- 2–5 years of proven experience in electrical building services design, ideally within a consultancy environment.
- Strong working knowledge of Revit MEP (electrical), AutoCAD Electrical, and load‑calculation/simulation software (Dialux, Relux, or similar).
- Solid understanding of Australian Standards (e.g., AS/NZS 3000, AS/NZS 3008, AS/NZS 3017) relating to power, lighting, earthing, and communications.
- Excellent verbal and written communication skills—you can articulate technical concepts clearly to non‑technical stakeholders.
- Demonstrated ability to manage multiple projects, meet deadlines, and work independently or within a small team.
- Eagerness to learn emerging technologies (BIM workflows, energy‑efficient lighting design, smart‑building controls) and contribute to continuous improvement.
- Exposure to a diverse portfolio of landmark projects (universities, airports, schools, industrial precincts).
- Flexible working arrangements—hybrid office/remote model with a modern, centrally located Melbourne studio.
- Professional development budget: training, certifications, and mentorship programs.
- Supportive culture focused on work–life balance, social events, and wellbeing initiatives.
